1957 NSU Sportmax

Estimate  £25000-£3000

Category:

Not registered
Frame number 789861 R M 1
Engine number 789861 R
Built by Albert Clarke of the Terry Hill Racing Team in 1957 using a modified NSU Max frame
All other components are genuine Sportmax including the forks and swing arm
The engine is the correct  racing type ‘R’ model
The front hub has been changed for a Manx Norton one
This was common practice as the original was not very efficient
It was first ridden by Davey Andrews in the 1957 Isle of Man TT
Tommy Robb rode the bike for the remainder of the season finishing 3rd in the Ulster GP
In 1958 he finished 8th in the TT and 2nd in the Ulster GP
Sammy Miller who rode for the same team used this bike occasionally when his number one Sportmax was not available
The bike would have had various types of fairing in period but is now fitted with a specialist built factory ‘Dustbin’ fairing
This was commissioned by the previous owner using an original as a copy more than 35 years ago
Purchased in 2017 the bike forms  part of a gentleman’s collection of important racing machines
As the bike has not been used for some time commissioning will be necessary
A fibreglass fairing, front mudguard and factory engine stand is supplied with the bike
