Barn Full of Bikes

  • by

The Charterhouse team of valuers have unearthed 22 classic, vintage and veteran motorcycles in a barn which are entered without reserve into their online motorcycle auction on Wednesday 6th May.

“It was a fascinating discovery with pioneer motorcycles through to more modern machines, most of which have just been gathering dust, some clearly for decades.” Commented Richard Bromell. “Now dragged out of the barn they will all be off to new homes after the online auction on 6th May.”

Pioneer flat tank motorcycles from the barn include a 1911 Bradbury combination with a wicker chair £5,000-7,000, a 1921 Royal Enfield £3,000-5,000, a 1921 Blackburne and a 1927 New Imperial both £2,000-3,000.

With 15 other Royal Enfield’s, the deceased owner certainly had a liking for this manufacturer. There are Bullets, Continental GT’s, Meteor’s and Clippers to name a few.

However, perhaps the jewel in the crown in the collection is a Douglas Mark Series cutaway motorcycle.

Cutaway motorcycles were produced by manufactures to showcase their skill, quality of work and mechanical genius. They were very expensive to produced, usually being made just as a cutaway rather than taking an already completed motorcycle to pieces.

Rarely do cutaway motorcycles appear on the market, but this Douglas, which has been barn stored for years, will benefit from either an oily rag wipe over or even a full programme of restoration, and is estimated at £1,500-2,500.

Overall, this collection of Cornish barn stored motorcycles are estimated to sell for £30,000.

Charterhouse are now accepting further entries for this May 6th classic motorcycle auction. This auction, which already has £600,000 of motorcycles entered, will be held as an online only sale behind closed doors, combined with telephone and commission bids. The motorcycles sold will be collected on behalf of the buyers by specialist motorcycle moving company Chas Mortimer who has implemented a policy of no contact collect and delivery to keep everyone safe.
