Bob MacIntyre’s Royal Enfield to be Auctioned

  • by

A Royal Enfield Super Meteor ridden by Bob MacIntyre and partner Derek Powell in the 1958 Thruxton 500 mile race is being sold by Charterhouse in their 28th October specialist online classic and vintage motorcycle auction.

“Rarely do bikes ridden by Bob Mac appear on the market.” Commented Charterhouse specialist George Beale. “This Super Meteor also has the added benefit of being restored, is ready to ride and will be of great interest to collectors.”

Bob McIntyre and partner Derek Powell took this Royal Enfield Super Meteor to second place in the 1958 Thruxton 500 mile race .

The Royal Enfield was the fastest bike in the race and was leading until the petrol tank split. The time lost in the pits to change tanks was too much and whilst Bob McIntyre was catching Mike Hailwood on the Triumph there were not enough laps left in the race to enable him to win. The race was won by Mike Hailwood and partner Dan Shorey riding a Triumph Tiger 110.

Charterhouse are now accepting further entries for this specialist auction.
