The Charterhouse February specialist auction of vintage and classic motorcycles was another huge success with a Vincent Black Shadow taking the top spot selling for just over £65,000.
The auction, which was held at The Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet, generated huge interest before the auction with hundreds of bidders turning up on the sale day.” Commented Matthew Whitney. “In addition to the buyers in te rooms, there were many telephone bids and plenty of live internet bidders joining in from across the UK, Europe and even Hong Kong, which resulted in a sale total of over £242,000.”
Although based in The West Country, Charterhouse source classic and vintage motorcycles up and down the country. The 1949 Vincent Black Shadow came to the sale from a client in Essex. He had owned the bike for many years during which time he had completely restored it.
Another motorcycle which came to auction in a beautifully restored state, was a 1924 Triumph SD. With before and after photographs in the catalogue, this was well admired by just about everyone and sold for over estimate at £9,622.
Another show quality bike was a big Japanese 1976 Kawasaki Z900 which sold for a strong £8,150.
In addition to show quality motorbikes, there were plenty of projects which had been dragged out of barns and garages. Here a two owner 1933 Sunbeam Model 8 presented very well in its oily rag condition and sold for £6,266, a 1957 Norton Model 50 which was in a muddy state, £3,169 and a 1958 Velocette LE which was covered in a thick layer of dust for £576 showing there was something for everyone covering all price ranges and motorcycling tastes.
Charterhouse are now taking entries for their next specialist sale of classic and vintage motorbikes which is being held in conjunction with the Vintage Nostalgia Festival at Stockton ark, Stockton, Wiltshire.
